Gym commitments
As this time, it seems highly likely that I will be needing another operation on my knee. To prepare for this and for the hard work afterwards, I want to be in the best shape I can be. It’s difficult to put arbitrary targets in terms of weight and percentage body fat. I am technically well within “healthy”, but I am not happy with my fitness right now. I think if I can continue to eat reasonably healthily and go twice a week that should be enough to gradually get myself in shape without sucking up all my life.
Cooking
I weirdly quite enjoy cooking, but my repertoire is severely lacking. I recently realised that there are a lot of resources online to learn how to cook some decent meals, so I thought it would be a worthwhile resolution to set an aim of learning how to cook one meal per month. I can then blog about how it went. Cooking is almost always cheaper and healthier than getting a ready meal so considering the current financial climate, this is probably my most sensible resolution.
Money (seriously)
Last year, there were quite a lot of material goods I wanted. I showed absolutely no restraint here, buying a new PC, an iPhone, a third of a HDTV and more or less completely replacing my wardrobe. This year, there are a few things I can think that I actually want:
- Piano lessons
- DSLR Camera
Much less than last year so in theory I should have a bit more disposable income available. I would like to reach the end of a month and still be in the black. If I achieve that, I’ll be happy enough to say I achieved this resolution (after trying for around 3 years)
Think of some kind of cool programming project and do it, preferably in a new language
I do have aspirations of sometime actually being a competent programmer. It is a profession where you definitely learn by doing. However it is difficult to motivate yourself to learn a new programming language without some kind of goal.
I need to think of a fun project to get stuck into and do it. There are millions of things you can do with a computer so I must be able to think of something, surely?
